Welcome back from being off track! A new month has already started and we are ready to begin learning again! Here is what we will be working on in November:
Math: We will be finishing up a unit on basic division and multiplication and some algebra concepts in the next couple of weeks. The next unit will focus more on bigger division and multiplication problems and recognizing patterns.
Reading: We just finished up reading a realistic fiction book for our book reports when we went off track. This month students should be reading their choice of book and doing 2 journal entries in their Reading Journals on that book. Ideas for writing entries are in the journals if students get stuck with what to write. The goal of this is to get students thinking about what they are reading and respond to it. I will read the journals at the end of the month and grade them based on their responses.
Please continue monitoring your child's reading minutes and write how many minutes he/she is reading each day in their planner. This will help you keep track of what days they are reading for "Road to Success" tickets as well as for totaling reading minutes for a grade each month.
Writing: We have finished writing our personal narratives and will be learning the elements of fairy tales and writing our own.
Science: We just finished up our first unit on rocks and soil and will be doing a unit on fossils next. We will be learning about what makes a fossil a fossil, as well as the different types of fossils and how they are made.
Social Studies: We are going to start a unit on the five Native American tribes of Utah: The Utes, Paiutes, Goshutes, Shoshones, and Navajos. We will be studying each tribe in detail and comparing and contrasting them. We will also see how the tribes have contributed to Utah's culture today.
