November News

Here is what is happening during the month of November:

1. Math- We are on Unit 3, which is on multiplying fractions by whole numbers, other fractions, and mixed numbers. Students will need to model with a fraction bar, number line, or area model how to do these problems. Students will also learn how do divide fractions and model how to divide them.

2. Reading- We are almost half way through our class 40 book reading challenge! Students are keeping track of books in their reading notebook at school each week. Please encourage your child to read at home at least 30 minutes a night, five nights a week. Reading minutes will need to be totaled and signed for every Destination in the planner. The next Destination is on November 30. Students will need 19 reading stamps to go. 1 reading stamp is 30 minutes of reading.

We have started reading groups! While reading, we will be focusing on the reading skills of conclusions/generalizations and main ideas/details. Our reading strategy focus will be infer/predict and monitor/clarify. Please reinforce these skills and strategies at home!

3. Writing- We are finishing up an opinion essay. We will be doing an informational essay next.

4. Social Studies- We are learning about the 13 colonies. We will be splitting into groups and doing a presentation on a colony in front of the class.

5. Science- We are not currently doing science. Our next unit is on electricity and magnets. Students will stay with me for that unit.

Please remember that students are allowed to correct any work (including TESTS) that is below an 80%. I will usually put a stamp on it that says "Correct and Return" or "Redo" if that is the case. For every mistake that is corrected, I will give back half the points back that were missed.
