1. Math- We are just starting Unit 6. It is on writing equations from story problems, solving story problems involving comparisons, checking for reasonableness, and writing story problems.
2. Reading- We are over half way in our class 40 book reading challenge! Students are keeping track of books in their reading notebook at school each week. Please encourage your child to read at home at least 30 minutes a night, five nights a week. Reading minutes will need to be totaled and signed for every Destination in the planner. The next Destination is on March 2. Students will need 18 reading stamps to go. 1 reading stamp is 30 minutes of reading.
We are reading the novel, Blood on the River, as a class. We are also doing reading groups. While reading, we are focusing on the reading skill of theme. Our reading strategy focus will be inferring and predicting. Please reinforce these skills and strategies at home!
3. Writing- We are writing another opinion essay. We are focusing on organizing our thoughts into a 5 paragraph essay and citing the sources we get our ideas from. In grammar, we are learning about suffixes, prefixes, and pronouns.
4. Social Studies-We are learning about the American Revolutionary War. We are learning about the important battles that happened during the revolution, what it was like to be a soldier, why colonists decided to declare independence, and the important colonial leaders during that time period.
5. Science- Students just learned about Matter from Miss Harvey. They will go to Mrs. Cromar to learn about the Earth's changing surface next.
Please remember that students are allowed to correct any work (including TESTS) that is below an 80%. I will usually put a stamp on it that says "Correct and Return" or "Redo" if that is the case. For every mistake that is corrected, I will give back half the points back that were missed.
