Here is what we are learning during the month of November:
1. Math- We are on Unit 3, which is on multiplying and dividing fractions.
2. Reading- We are in the middle of our class 40 book reading challenge! Students are keeping track of books in their reading notebook at school each week. Please encourage your child to read at home at least 30 minutes a night, five nights a week. Reading minutes will need to be totaled and signed for every Destination in the planner. The next Destination is on December 1. Students will need 18 reading stamps to go. 1 reading stamp is 30 minutes of reading.
We are reading the novel, Wonder, as a class. We have also started reading groups. While reading, we are focusing on the reading skills of analyzing and drawing conclusions. Our reading strategy focuses will be infer/predict and visualize. Please reinforce these skills and strategies at home!
3. Writing- We are finishing an opinion essay. We will be writing a narrative essay next. We are also learning about nouns and combining sentences.
4. Social Studies- We are learning about the 13 colonies and how the colonists lived back then.
5. Science- Students will be learning about heredity next from Mr. Judd. Students will learn about inherited traits and how different species survived with those traits. Students will also learn the differences between learned behaviors and instincts.
Please remember that students are allowed to correct any work (including TESTS) that is below an 80%. I will usually put a stamp on it that says "Correct and Return" or "Redo" if that is the case. For every mistake that is corrected, I will give back half the points back that were missed.
