Welcome Back to School!

Welcome to a new school year! This is my tenth year teaching. I taught seven years in the fourth grade at Welby. This is my third year teaching fifth grade. I am truly excited to teach and inspire your child with all there is to learn this year! My goal is to get to know each and every child in the class on a personal level and teach in a way that will get them to think critically and discover the concepts being taught. I will also encourage leadership and the 7 habits in the Leader in Me program at our school.

I also believe that parents play an important role in their child’s education and I would like to offer you many opportunities to be involved with this. First of all, you can come to Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 24th. You will get to meet me in person, hear about what your child will be doing throughout the year, and ask any questions you may have.

Second, if you would like to spend time helping in our classroom, we would love to have you! There are plenty of volunteer opportunities. Please indicate what you'd like to do on the sheet your child brings home the first day. I will contact you to finalize any scheduling, if needed. Even if you do not wish to volunteer, please fill out your contact information on the sheet and return it to me so I can get a hold of you if needed (email is strongly recommended).

Jordan School District has provided for most of your child’s supplies for school, but some basic items such as pencils and pens may need to be purchased throughout the year. If you would like to donate any school supplies to our class, we could always use them! Some common items needed are tissues, glue sticks, dry erase markers, hand-sanitizer, zip lock bags and Clorox wipes. One of the items provided by the school is a planner for your child. Please use this to keep track of your child’s homework and progress in school. I will be having the students write down any homework they have each day, as well as any important dates to remember. This is a great opportunity to communicate any questions or concerns you have. Please look at the planner every night and initial that you have seen it, as I will be checking each student’s planner frequently.

Grades are also online and are best checked at least once a week. If you haven’t logged into Skyward before, please contact the main office for more information. Skyward can be accessed through the class blog I have created to also help you keep track of other websites, assignments, and class happenings. The address to the blog is misslloydsclass.blogspot.com. The blog will be updated weekly, so please check it often!

If you ever need to contact me, do not hesitate to call me at school. I can be reached at 801-280-1456. You may also come by before or after school or email me at christine.lloyd@jordandistrict.org. Please know that I am willing to work with you as much as I can to help your child learn and feel important and loved. I am looking forward to an awesome school year with you and your child!

Sincerely,

Christy Lloyd
