1. Math- We will be finishing Unit 4 this month, which is on multiplying whole numbers and decimals.
2. Reading- We are in the middle of our class 40 book reading challenge! Students are keeping track of books in their reading notebook at school each week. Please encourage your child to read at home at least 30 minutes a night, five nights a week. Reading minutes will need to be totaled and signed for every Destination in the planner. The next Destination is on January 13. Students will need 10 reading stamps to go. 1 reading stamp is 30 minutes of reading.
We have also started reading groups. While reading, we will be focusing on the reading skill of compare and contrast and story structure. Our reading strategy focus will be monitor/clarify and infer/predict. Please reinforce these skills and strategies at home!
3. Writing- We are writing a 5 paragraph opinion essay on whether we would be a loyalist, patriot, or someone that is undecided in the American Revolution.
For grammar, we will be focusing on identifying nouns and capitalizing proper nouns.
4. Social Studies- We are currently learning about the American Revolution. We are talking about important events that happened during the war and what it was like to be a soldier during the war.
5. Science- Sra. Stevens will be finishing up a unit on electricity this month. Students will learn how static and current electricity works, as well as how to build a complete circuit and the difference between a conductor and insulator.
Please remember that students are allowed to correct any work (including TESTS) that is below an 80%. I will usually put a stamp on it that says "Correct and Return" or "Redo" if that is the case. For every mistake that is corrected, I will give back half the points back that were missed.
