1. settlement- a place where people live
2. epidemic- the spread of a disease to many people
3. circumnavigate- when a ship sails around something (example- the earth)
4. expedition- a journey made by a group of people for a specific reason
5. conquistador- a Spanish soldier sent to conquer lands in Central and South America
6. empire- a large region under the control of another country
