June Newsletter

Wow! I can't believe it is June already! It has been crazy around here with packing up to move to Elk Ridge and taking the SAGE tests. We have been working hard, but here is what we will be doing this month:

1. Math- We have just finished all units of math. We have also taken our SAGE tests. We are currently taking part in my 100% assignment challenge. I have chosen several important concepts in math that we have learned throughout the year that are essential to know how to do in preparation for fifth grade. There is a worksheet for each one and students will get three tries to get all problems right. If students are still struggling after that, they will receive help from a peer or myself to get 100%.

2.Reading- We are almost finished with our class 40 book reading challenge! Students keep track of books in their reading notebook. Please encourage your child to read at home at least 20 minutes a night. I will be sending home your child's reading notebook soon so you can go through it with them and decide how many books he/she has read for the year.

3. Writing- We are learning about different types of poems and writing one for each. We will be editing and revising them soon. We will also put them in a bare book to take home.

4. Social Studies- We are learning about the changes that came to Utah after the pioneers settled it. We have been learning about the transcontinental railroad, telegraph, pony express, and mining. We will be practicing our Utah Songs to perform for K-3 student and parents later this month. All parents are invited to attend!

5. Science- We have finished all the units for the year and have completed the SAGE tests. We will be integrating all our science concepts in to a program called STEM. It includes science, technology, engineering, and math. Students will hear about problems and solve them by creating a model of what they would do.
