Vocabulary List- March 23-27

Fossils #2 Words
Science Textbook, Chapter 4

1. replacement- the process of an organism's hard parts being dissolved and replaced by other minerals
2. sedimentary- formed from mud, sand, small pieces of rock, or other sediments that are pressed and naturally cemented to form a rock
3. dinosaurs- extinct organisms
4. extinct- no longer exists
5. trilobite- an extinct ocean shellfish
6. tropical- very hot and moist climate
7. climate- a pattern of weather over a period of time
8. extinction- loss of an entire type of organism

I apologize for not posting the vocabulary words last week, but wanted to post them anyway so you know what words your child is expected to know for our fossils science unit.

Science Textbook, Chapter 4

1. environment- the surroundings and conditions in which an organism lives
2. fossil- the remains or evidence of ancient organisms
3. impression- a mark or design made on a surface by pressure
4. infer- a process of reasoning from something known or assumed
5. organisms- living things that carry out basic life functions on their own
6. prehistoric- belonging to a period of time before recorded history
7. mineral- a natural solid material that has a particular crystal structure
8. preserved- kept from harm or change
