Social Studies Textbook, Chapter 4, Lesson 1
1. archaeology- the study of history through artifacts, bones,and ruins
2. artifact- an object people made and used and then left behind
3. culture- the way of life of a particular group of people
4. excavate- to remove the earth in order to find something buried
5. history- the story of the past
6. primary source- something created by someone who was there at the time; a first-hand account (journals, diaries, etc...)
7. ruin- the remains of an old building
8. secondary source- something created by someone who was NOT there at the time; a second-hand account (biography, encyclopedia, historical fiction book, textbook, etc...)
