Vocabulary List

Water Cycle and Weather
Science Textbook- Chapter 8, Lessons 2 and 3

1. rain- liquid water that falls from the clouds in the form of water droplets
2. snow- ice crystals that fall from the clouds
3. sleet- frozen rain that falls from clouds
4. hail- round pieces of ice that fall from the clouds
5. tornado- a fast-spinning spiral of wind that stretches from the clouds of a thunderstorm to the ground (form over land)
6. hurricane- large tropical storms with wind speeds of 74 miles per hour or more (form over water)
7. sea breeze- a light wind that blows in from the sea or any large body of water
8. land breeze- a light wind that blows from the land to the sea or any large body of water
9. rain shadow- when the mountains block rain from getting to the other side of them (one side of the mountain is wet and the other side is dry)
