Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year! My name is Christy Lloyd and this is my fourth year teaching fourth grade at Welby. I am truly excited to teach and inspire your child with all there is to learn this year! My goal is to get to know each and every child in the class on a personal level and teach in a way that will get them to think critically and discover the concepts being taught.
It is my hope that throughout the year you will come to accept this philosophy of teaching and encourage your child the same way I will be at school. I believe that parents play an important role in their child’s education and I would like to offer you many opportunities to be involved with this. First of all, you can come to Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 18th. You will get to meet me in person, hear about what your child will be doing throughout the year, and ask any questions you may have.
Second, if you would like to spend time helping in our classroom, we would love to have you! There are plenty of volunteer opportunities both in working with children at school and paper work at home. I can send work home to be corrected, cut, stapled, etc. You can volunteer to chaperone field trips or help out at our class parties. You can also come to share your special talent, tutor students, or teach a unit, such as art or Junior Achievement. Please indicate your interest(s) on the next sheet. I will contact you to finalize any scheduling, if needed. Even if you do not wish to volunteer, please fill out your contact information on the attached sheet and return it to me so I can get a hold of you if needed (email is strongly recommended).
Jordan School District has provided for most of your child’s supplies for school, so no purchases are necessary. However, if you would like to donate any school supplies, we could always use them! Some common items needed are tissues, glue sticks, dry erase markers, hand-sanitizer, and zip lock bags. One of the items provided by the school is a planner for your child. Within the planner are the requirements for Paws for Reading and Paws for Success to keep track of. Please also use this to keep track of your child’s homework and progress in school. I will be having the students write down any homework they have each day, as well as any important dates to remember. This is a great opportunity to communicate any questions or concerns you have. Please look at it every night and initial that you have seen it, as I will be checking each student’s planner every morning!
Grades are also online and are best checked at least once a week. If you haven’t logged into Skyward before, please contact the front office for more information. Skyward can be accessed through the class blog I have created to also help you keep track of other websites, assignments, and class happenings. The address to the blog is misslloydsclass.blogspot.com. The blog will be updated weekly, so please check it often!
