January Newsletter

Welcome back from the holidays! I hope you all enjoyed your break and had good times with family and friends. It is a new year, as well as a new month, with much to do and learn! Here is what we will be working on this month:

Math: We have been working on doing 2 x 2 digit multiplication and will be working on dividing with remainders as far as 3 digits divided by 1 digit. We will also be learning about identifying patterns in numbers.

Please remember that if your child has assignments that come back with a "Please Correct and Return", I am giving them an opportunity to correct their mistakes so that they gain a better understanding of the math, if they did not quite understand it the first time. Please try to encourage your child to correct their problems!

Reading: A new book report will be assigned this month and will be due the end of February. Please be looking for information on that in the coming weeks!

Please also remember to help total and sign reading minutes at the end of each week, as well as each night, put how many minutes were read for the "Road to Success" reading tickets. It helps you and me keep track of the minutes, as well as what days your child has read.

Science: We have recently finished up a unit on weather and when we come back on track in February, we will be doing a unit on rocks and soil.

Social Studies: We have been doing a unit on the trappers and explorers of Utah and will now be talking about the pioneers that settled early Utah. We will be doing a simulation of the trek they took to get to the Utah valley that will help the students understand what the pioneers went through as they were coming to Utah.

Writing: We are going to be finishing up our Fairy Tales and doing a short unit on poems before we go off track.
