December Book Report: FANTASY

Fantasy books are concerned with people, places, or events that could not occur in the real world. It differs from science fiction in that it stays away from explanations of scientific possibilities in the future. Examples of fantasy books:
1. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit
2. The Giver by Lois Lowry
3. Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
4. Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
5. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
6. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
7. James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
8. Matilda by Roald Dahl
9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
10. Peter Pan by James M. Barrie


Assignment:
Do a book talk that lasts no more than 3 minutes long. Talk to the class about your book by saying a little about the author, explaining who the characters are and enough about the beginning of the story so that everyone will understand what they are about to hear. Finally, read an exciting, interesting, or amusing passage from your book. Stop reading at a moment that leaves the audience hanging and add "If you want to know more you'll have to read the book."
Grading will be based on the following:
1. Clear, loud voice
2. Length of talk
3. Statement of title, author, characters, and beginning of story.
4. Reading a passage of the book.
5. Completion of attached paper.
*Students will sign up to present their book talks on the 20th, 21st, or 22nd of December*
